Captured this shot of a male Red-Bellied Woodpecker near Toronto's Humber river valley, as he inspects his newly carved nest hole. The Red-Bellied Woodpecker is one of the rarest of the woodpeckers found in Ontario. They are mainly located in the United States, but climate change has prompted them to gradually expand their reach. This area of southern Ontario is likely near the northernmost limit of their current range.
